A Coalition for Better Eldercare

Real change in aging services doesn’t start in the boardroom. It starts in the break room. The community center. On a Zoom call with people who care.

That’s the heart of our State Coalitions—a growing network of passionate, grassroots groups working together to improve the experience of aging in their states. Coalition members include care partners, providers, ombudsmen, surveyors, regulators, family advocates, researchers, and more. If you’re part of the ecosystem of care, you belong here.

What Do State Coalitions Do?

Every State Coalition looks a little different—but most:

  • Meet monthly to share resources, ideas, and challenges related to advancing person-directed living and culture change in long-term and post-acute care
  • Host educational events, workshops, and community conversations
  • Create connections between providers and regulators
  • Promote person-directed living and the dignity of older adults
  • Help local communities take practical steps toward culture change
  • Support care teams and leaders with training, peer support, and tools
  • Serve as liaisons between national movements and local realities

Some Coalitions focus on workforce, some on dementia, some on regulation or innovation—but they all focus on people first.

A Legacy of Quiet Heroes

Did you know that our State Coalitions have been part of this movement for nearly three decades? Long before “culture change” became a buzzword, the Pioneer Network was working through its state coalitions quietly reimagining care from the inside out—hosting trainings, mentoring providers, and supporting those doing the hardest work in aging services.

AgingIN: National Coordinating Center

AgingIN serves as the National Coordinating Center for State Coalitions. We support both established and emerging coalitions with:

  • Toolkits and templates
  • Mentorship and leadership training
  • National exposure and shared learning
  • Annual networking events
  • A dedicated home on the AgingIN platform

We are actively working to build and support Coalitions in all 50 states.

Working together

This Is How We Build Better

Every culture change success story started with a few people deciding to think differently. That’s what State Coalitions are all about—local leaders creating better care environments, better teams, and better lives for older adults.

This work matters. And it starts with you.
