The Green House® Project (GHP) is excited to announce that Otterbein SeniorLife’s 47 small house skilled nursing and rehab homes have recently become designated as Green House homes.
Established in 1912, Lebanon, Ohio-based Otterbein is a nonprofit organization that offers independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, rehab, memory support, respite care, home health care, and hospice services among its 20 locations throughout Ohio, and in Franklin, Ind.
The first of Otterbein’s small house homes was opened in 2007 in Marblehead, Ohio. They have since grown to 47 homes in 10 locations, and currently serve up to 470 elders. Construction is underway to increase capacity to serve an additional 90 elders by the end of 2021.
Now trademarked as Green House homes, the Otterbein SeniorLife skilled nursing and rehab neighborhoods bring to 359 the number of homes that have built according to GHP standards since 2003, across 32 states.
“We are very excited to have Otterbein SeniorLife join the Green House community. They will bring such deep knowledge of the small house model to our network as we continue to revolutionize care by propelling the small house movement forward,” said Susan Ryan, GHP senior director. “Their inclusion in our COVID-19 study, which added to the integrity of our incredible data, makes this designation a natural step in the awareness of the Green House model as future-proof and revolutionary.”
“Otterbein’s strategic goal is to lead the nation in liberating elders, and those who serve them, from the mindset of institutional care,” said Jill Wilson, Otterbein SeniorLife CEO/president. With 14 years of small house experience under our belt and as the nation’s largest provider of small house care, we remain committed to that goal. We look forward to further advancing the goal in partnership with the team at The Green House Project by sharing best practices, extending research, and expanding together our like-minded views on innovation and liberation when it comes to the future of senior care.”
